What is prosthodontics?

a. Prosthodontics is a dental specialty focusing on the restoration and replacement of missing or damaged teeth using prostheses. As prosthodontists, we are trained to design and place dental prosthetics such as crowns, bridges, conventional dentures, and implant supported prosthesis (including but not limited to All-on-X® dentures and implant crowns).

When should I consider seeing a Prosthodontist?

a. If you have missing teeth, severely damaged teeth, issues with your bite, or desire a smile makeover, it’s time to consult with a prosthodontist. We can assess your oral health, discuss treatment options, and provide personalized solutions for the restoration of your teeth

What kind of dental services/treatments do you specialize in/provide in the
office?

a. Not only do we offer prosthodontic care to restore damaged and missing teeth, but we also offer regular check-ups and general dentistry services. This includes routine cleanings, tooth-colored fillings, in-house teeth whitening, and more. Simply call our office to inquire about our services and to book an appointment.

Why is it important for me to get my routine dental check-up?

a. It is important to get a routine check-up at least every 6 months–or sometimes even more frequently for patients with compromised gums–to screen for oral cancer, cavities, and gum health. We do periodic exams and take the necessary X-rays to maintain overall oral health.

What is gum disease?

a. Gum disease, also known as periodontitis, is an infection of the gum. It is typically caused by poor brushing and flossing that allows plaque–a sticky film of bacteria–to build up on the teeth and harden into tartar. If tartar does not get removed by regular teeth cleanings in a dental office, it will lead to gum recession and gradual bone loss. Gum disease has only mild symptoms (i.e. bad breath and bleeding gums) which is why many patients do not seek treatment. If gum disease doesn’t get treated at the early stage it would lead to severe bone loss, teeth mobility, and teeth loss.

Are dental implants the right choice for me?

a. Dental implants are an excellent option for patients with missing teeth who want a permanent and durable solution. However, the suitability of dental implants depends on various factors, including bone health, overall health, and gum condition. Our prosthodontist will evaluate your case during your consultation and advise you on the best treatment plan. We work with a multitude of implant brands (i.e. Straumann, Zimmer, Nobel Biocare, BioHorizons, Astra, Neodent, Hiossen, etc.) to find the best personalized option for you.

Are there any alternatives to dentures for replacing all missing teeth?

a. Yes, dental implants can be an excellent alternative to traditional dentures for replacing all missing teeth. Implant-supported full arch bridges or All-on-4® can provide a more stable and secure solution for those seeking a fixed option.

What are the negative effects of not replacing missing teeth?

i. Increased risk of wear and cracks on other teeth
ii. Shifting of adjacent and opposing teeth
iii. Difficulty in chewing and speaking
iv. Changes in facial appearance

What is a veneer?

a. A veneer is a thin piece of porcelain that is bonded to the front surface of a tooth. Veneers can be used to change the shape or color of teeth, to give the appearance of straight teeth in a patient who has crooked teeth, or to close gaps between teeth.
